The Food and Toiletries Ministry has been a staple of the church at the corner of 58th and Chester for as long as I can remember. This ministry has been a blessing to me and my family as well as my entire community for over 30 years.
Being the leader of the ministry was never something that I thought I would be doing at this point in my life. When I was asked to organize and create a new process flow by our Pastors Holland and James when the pandemic first began in March, I didn’t understand why God was placing me in this position.
At that time I was available daily to fulfill the role as I was affected by the massive job loss created by the pandemic. Pastor Holland was aware of my organizational skills and my desire to help the next man, He asked me to step in, and I accepted the role, and became the face of the Feeding Ministry.
I honestly believe that what keeps me going day to day is demonstrated in scripture: Matthew 25:35 – 40, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me”. My life experiences have impacted my desire to help others in my community. Leading the Food and Toiletries ministry has provided me with the opportunity to pay it forward, by simply doing for others what has been done for me.
Salt and Light Church is instrumental in ensuring community members have access to food and other resources. The Food and Toiletry ministry would not be able to function without the church. Our members are the volunteers who work the ministry and engage with our community to reach every need that is brought to us.
